My daughter complained about the a/c was blowing warm. Reputable repair place diagnostic check found evaporator behind the dash leaking. Talk about pissed off! It's a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe with 106,000 miles on it, and the evaporator is leaking! This repair requires the whole dashboard to be removed, completely down to the firewall. The repair shop quote was fair, but my daughter didn't have thousands sitting around to have them do the job. I looked for the alternative, and that was to find a mobile mechanic willing to tackle that size of a repair. I found Wrench 23, David to be exact. He didn't blink and said he would take on the job. He mentioned that he would need help lifting the dashboard out of the vehicle since it's pretty heavy, and of course helping him get it back in place once the evaporator was replaced. He suggested replacing the heater core while we had the dashboard out, which made perfectly good sense. I'm a retired aircraft mechanic that does most of the maintenance on the family vehicles, but I really didn't want to tackle that scale of a project. I must admit, I asked David a lot of questions, really checking his knowledge and background. What was the outcome of the repair? This man knocked the job out in 8 hours! When I helped him for the short time, I could see how meticulous he was, very cautious removing parts to get access to the main mount bolts for the dashboard. Any mechanic knows this job can easily be 10 to 12 hours, especially if you've never done it before. All systems work great and the a/c is blowing very cold - I found our family mechanic. I'm 66 and slowing down on the maintenance side of the house, but I'm so happy that I found David - he's very professional and honest, and he truly saved us a thousand dollars, which enabled my daughter to go forward with the repair.
